Cashew milk, cashew mylk? While I’m not quite sure what the appropriate spelling is for this plant-based milk, if you haven’t tried it yet, you’ve got to! It just as smooth as my homemade almond milk, but even easier and naturally slightly sweeter too. Keep in mind that you’ll still have to soak the cashews (like the almonds) for anywhere for 4-8 hours to get a smooth consistency for your milk.
What’s great is that a homemade version of cashew milk is SO easy! Unlike almond milk, you don’t have to strain cashew milk, and it only requires two ingredients. But you can always add other ingredients to enhance the flavor.
So what are the ingredients? Just cashews and water. Yup, that’s it! I make this in my Vitamix, but any high-speed blender should work. If after you make it you realize your blender didn’t fully blend it into a smooth, creamy, texture, you can use a nut milk bag, strainer, or cheese cloth to take out any leftover sediment.
After you’ve made the milk, you can try blending in:
Dates/Honey/Maple Syrup for sweetness
Cinnamon and/or Vanilla Extract for extra flavor
Cacao or Cocoa Powder for chocolate-y milk
It’s so easy peasy, you’ll wonder why you haven’t already tried it!
Start by soaking 1 cup of raw cashews in water, covered, overnight or for at least 4 hours.
Drain cashews and rinse with filtered water.
Add cashews and 3 cups of filtered water to Vitamix (or any high-speed blender).
Blend for about one minute. You’ll notice it start to look frothy like this:
Depending on your blender, you may need to blend for a bit longer.
